I’m not sure if I’m watching too many movies, or where this bug up my ass came from. However, I would say during the entire year of 2010, I’ve had this urge to go to Italy. Not travel Europe, Paris, etc. Nope, I want to go to Italy.
When the whole, I lost my job thing happened, I received my little unemployment debit card in the email, and it’s sat on my desk unused since May. Of course I request my deposit every two weeks, but I made a pact with myself. If I never had to use it, I would use that money and go to Italy.
Well, my whole good fortune is a whole other topic for another time. But through friends, a new business that’s doing very well, and some other things, I’m going to be just fine for a while. I decided you know what, there’s never going to be a better time, and I’m freaking going to Italy.
So the trip planning has begun. My plane ticket has been booked, and for two weeks in October, I’ll be traveling through Italy all by myself. Of course there’s always the potential to find some hot Italian ass to be my tour guide, but I’m just going to see what happens. I think for the first week I’m going to do a tour. That way as I travel through Rome, Venice, and Florence, I know I won’t miss out on the monumental things. Then the other week I’m going to be on my own and decide if there any other places I want to see again, or just go hang out at the beach.
It’s my own little adventure. No, I won’t be buying a villa. Well, I guess never say never. If you have any must see places, etc…let me know.

Please buy and villa, please buy a villa…

Even though I’m not very religious, I do believe in seeing as much of gods creation as possible. Enjoy, hell buy that villa if you want, but cross things off the bucket list. There are are no do overs!
Now if you will excuse me, I’m gonna go on a 7 mile hike through Rocky mountain national park.

Okay..it is official!! You are my idol. I think this is just so awesome. And I LOVE THAT MOVIE. Is Italy like Vegas…what happens in Italy stays in Italy?

Momofone that made me laugh. I love the motto…let’s just keep our fingers crossed that this Italy trip is more exciting than my last Vegas trip.

I soooo want to go to Italy, too!! So, I’ll want to hear every, stinkin’ detail when you get back so I can live vicariously through you! Almost went a couple of years ago when Hubby had to go to France for business…we had the whole thing planned. South of France for his business stuff, then Italy for Vacation time. Then he got put in a different position at work…no more France trip, and no more Italy.
But there is still hope…maybe someday. In fact, I’m going to start the “Italy Fund” right now. I’m now inspired!!

Oooh, Italy! I’m so jealous! I have always wanted to see Venice. Enjoy your trip

if you love art you must go to the vatican, just remember to wear appropriate clothing, no knees showing, no bare shoulders. i have a yet to meet anyone who can stand in front of the pieta and not marvel. i also bet as you walk through the vatican and wonder, would Christ approve…i think not, just not his style imo.
eat at the couter/bar at cafes the prices are less than if you sit down at a table, great if you are stopping in for a coffee. lake cuomo is beautiful and hell you just might run into George, and wouldn’t that make a post or two or heaven help me three!
rent a car and go for a drive, beautiful country…oh and buy a villa. renovate it, and have sabrina renew her vows there and then we can all come, because in the end it is all about us anyway. then we can have a party to celebrate twila’s baby boy ’seven trey trip III’ ! maybe even have some midget dancers, captain has friends.
there are no do-overs and i am so glad you are embrasing this time in your life, but please pause and know how flippin’ lucky you are to be able to go.
chao bella!

As cheesy as this suggestion is….read Eat, Pray, Love before you go. Be ready to revel in all that life has to offer and be amazed…and OMG, what a great place to start!
Spero che troviate un amante italiano fantastico! Viaggi felici!

Elanah I am jealous, I would love to return to Italy. I hope Genoa is on your agenda, as well as Naples. I have some great pictures from my Navy days there, which bring back some excellent memories.

Roxy next to my first true love, the Tx hill country, Alberta falls may be the most beautiful place I’ve ever been. The drive from Loveland to Estes Park is stunning. Have a great trip and I’ll wave on the highway as we pass by

Love Italy! I’ve been there twice and can’t wait to go back again. Excellent choice! Soak up La Dolce Vita – relax, take a stroll, drink some wine, sit around a piazza licking up some gelato and people watching… ahhh… you’ll never want to come back.

dub, you would love the canadian rockies, banf, lake louise, and melanie lake (pronounced melane) somehow they seem more pristine up north.
have a great trip, roxy.
Jim is right genoa, if only for a “drive through” stop for the afternoon.

With the train tracks right up next to the beach, where the passengers get a view of the topless sunbathers.

Thanks, Captain…now I have that damn Katy Perry song stuck in my head (aka, an earworm)
“California girls
We,re unforgettable
Daisy Dukes
Bikinis on top
Sun-kissed skin
So hot
will melt your popsicle
Oooooh Oh Oooooh”
Yeah…I got something right here that’ll melt your “popsicle”, baby.
Sunday, 1. August 2010 at 3:02 pm
Queen: If I were a man, I’d be begging for you to let me stick my “popsicle” in your hot oven! If I knew any single men in Dallas, I would send them your way, pronto. There’s a lot to be said for women over 50 who still want sex.

Owoweeewowwowwow! Ol’ Earl is envious, envious, envious!!!!! I would so like to go again. Beautiful country, beautiful people, wonderful food & vino vino vino! The only down side is that two weeks is just just long enough to make you painfully aware of all the stuff you don’t have time for… and the list will be long. I agree with the others…. the Vatican is not to be missed. The Sistine Chapel is every bit as awe-inspiring as you’ve imagined…. but be prepared to walk a long way through hall after hall of breathtaking art to get there. Plus, you don’t get to stay inside very long… but it’s still well worth it.
And yes, yes, yes… rent a car and go travelling around. The autostrada are amazing, and the secondary roads are NARROW, so be careful. Trains are neat, too.
My “must visit” places are Viarregio on the Mediterranean side (Hotel San Francisco is charming); Pisa (but be wary of the guys trying to sell you “designer watches” at the Tower); Firenze (Florence); try to work in a walking tour of the five villages of Cinque Terre… you almost gotta get there by train); and many, many more.
Ol’ Earl and Child Bride rented a mountain-top villa near Lucca a couple of years ago, and it was the experience of a lifetime. Since most of the villas are very private, you probably won’t get to see any on this trip… unless you run into George… but that’s a great reason to go back as soon as possible.
As for food, Earl’s experience is that you can’t go wrong.
Have fun!!!!!!!!

Queenie, I bet you put Daisy Duke to shame shame shame! My popsicle won’t melt, I’ll just breath harder until it all explodes!
